This is a two-year term position.
General Description:
Conceptualizes and designs graphic applications that promote and support Shedd, as well as departmental programs, events and exhibits, with an emphasis on advertising-related projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Designs and produces high-quality mid- to large-scale advertising, print, digital and exhibit communications with an emphasis on advertising projects.
• Clearly communicates design rationale to clients. Maintains and fosters close working relationships with them.
• Manages projects from concept through completion, adhering to budget, schedule and quality.
• Art-directs graphic designers, photographers, free-lancers and artists.
• Contacts vendors for printing quotes and advises clients on purchases of printing, photographic and other graphics services, and follows through on budgets.
• Other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
• Minimum BFA in graphic design from accredited design school or university.
• Five to seven years' graphic design experience in graphic design office or advertising agency.
• Technical skills: Superior knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite for print and web (web design experience—especially in Flash—is helpful, not mandatory). Excellent typographic and layout skills. Thorough understanding of print technology.
• Personal skills and characteristics: Strategic thinker with broad vision. Understands budget and brand constraints, but not creatively inhibited by them. Visualizes and maximizes values and goals of the organization. Excellent communication skills, a team player, self-motivated and able to deal with multiple deadlines on a regular basis. Can work through constructive criticism. Calm under pressure. Cooperative and collaborative with clients, vendors and staff. Maintains a strong commitment to quality and the Shedd’s mission.
