Internship Department: Staff Training Department
Objective: To develop an understanding of organizational training in a not-for-profit setting and gain experience with interactive online course modules through Adobe Captivate.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in the creation of a professional eLearning interactive online course system through Adobe Captivate.
• Explore and research potential training topics and activities to further develop Shedd's staff and volunteers.
• Assist with course preparations, executions and evaluations in conjunction with the training calendar.
• The intern would report any updates and suggestions during the weekly departmental meeting. Assist with additional projects and tasks as needed.
Final Product(s): Creation of an eLearning interactive coursework that will be used for training purposes throughout the aquarium or other projects as determined. Have an understanding of staff training in a not-for-profit institution.
Qualifications: A desirable candidate must be able to multi-task, work well with teams and independently. Good communication, time-management and presentation skills are preferred. A desired candidate would have the ability to "think outside the box," be a self-starter and have an interest in zoos and aquariums.
Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint and Access. Experience with Adobe Captivate is a plus. Should be able to transport materials including CPR mannequins and walk long distances. Professional work ethic and demeanor is imperative.
Minimum GPA: minimum 3.0 on a 4-point scale
Desired year in school: Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
Compensation: Unpaid. Interns must make arrangements with their schools to gain academic credit for this internship. Shedd Aquarium is happy to provide any work documentation necessary for this process.
Desired Majors: Training and development, organizational development, human resources, or similar field.
Time Commitment: Three to four days a week; 15 to 25 hours weekly (set schedule will be determined based on intern availability).
Learning Potential: Experience with the creation and execution of eLearning coursework. Exposure to a variety of training and organization behavior topics/information. Experience with organizing and updating a training calendar and coursework.
Connections to other Shedd staff and interns through formal and informal trainings as well as mentorship opportunities.
