Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer
Joyce Simon joined the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago in 1992 as its first chief financial officer; she also serves as the secretary-treasurer of the Shedd Aquarium Society, the not-for-profit corporation that owns and operates the aquarium.
Simon has overall responsibility for treasury, financial reporting, risk management, and accounting functions as well as information technology, purchasing and continuous improvement projects. Before joining Shedd, Simon was a partner with Ernst & Young, one of the “Big Four” international public accounting firms. At E&Y she worked with clients in a variety of industries ranging from securities broker-dealers to aerospace and defense contractors and financial holding companies.
Simon has been an active participant in professional and not-for-profit organizations. She is currently the treasurer of the International Women’s Forum-Chicago and is active in The Chicago Network. She previously served as president of the Chicago Finance Exchange and the American Women’s Society of CPAs as well as treasurer of the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, where she was recognized with the Outstanding Board Member award twice. Simon is also a former board member of the Illinois Spina Bifida Association and the Illinois CPA Society. In addition, she was selected by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants to serve on the Group of 100, which identified and prioritized environmental issues and trends that will impact the future of the CPA profession and for which action plans were developed by the AICPA.
Simon currently sits on the board of directors of a publicly held community bank holding company. She sits on the company’s Compensation Committee and is chairman of the Governance and Nominating Committee.
Simon has an MBA ini finance and accounting (specialization in industrial relations) and AB, political science, from the University of Chicago. She is a CPA licensed in the state of Illinois.
