Manages project- selection process in coordination with research committee chair. Includes addressing inquiries, compiling full proposals, distributing review packets, tracking reviews and communicating with principal investigators. Supports and orchestrates virtual and Shedd-based meetings of committee members as needed. Coordinates the implementation of projects by interfacing with designated Shedd staff and external principal investigators. Provides resources that guide Shedd staff in supporting studies (e.g., tissue-collection protocols, shipping addresses and shipping protocols). Coordinates and facilitates visits of investigators as needed. Markets the program (aquatic research collaborations) to potential investigators; maintains and distributes an up-to-date program description, canvasses universities and scientific organizations. Maintains a database of projects and tracks progress on review, implementation, project completion and reporting/publication. Communicates routinely with research committee members. Provides an annual report for Shedd use and others (e.g., AZA, AMMPA).
Job Requirements:
BS required with an MS degree preferred. Relevant science degrees considered. Demonstrated experience in research. Project-management experience required. Experience in a zoo or aquarium preferred. Strong communication and organizational skills essential. Ability to work in a team-managed organization and to work autonomously. Database-management experience required. May be required to participate in field projects requiring travel and vigorous physical activity. Scuba certification preferred.
