Great Lakes Action DaysWho said April in Chicago is too early to clean the beach?! Last Friday, a few of Shedd’s own GLADiators took to the turbulent shore of Openlands Lakeshore Preserve for our first official Great Lakes Action Day of the season.

With just seven of us (and two large cardboard containers full of coffee), we managed to pick and clear a significant amount of refuse collected on the beach during this interminable winter. In fact, we picked up 58 pounds! Not bad for a small group of caffeinated Sheddies plagued with cabin fever.

Clearly we’re off to a great start this year! I hope to see more of you out there in the coming months—our 12th Street cleanups are scheduled for every third Wednesday, 12-1 p.m.

Be sure to check out the complete GLAD schedule as well!
