    As one of the pup team’s around-the-clock shifts was changing, trainer Christy Sterling took a few minutes to talk about our newest southern sea otter and the care she receives. Christy, whose official title is assistant supervisor of penguins and otters, has helped care for Shedd’s rescued sea otter pups since the arrival of Kiana in 2005.

  • Stormy Weather in Forecast for Sea Otters

    Pup 719 is the 10th stranded sea otter pup Shedd has provided a home to since the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989.   • Our Newest Arrival, Pup 719

    “Spitfire” is the way one trainer describes Shedd’s newest addition, Pup 719. The 10-week-old southern sea otter was rescued by Monterey Bay Aquarium the first week in January. Shedd trainer Mike Pratt flew to California to assist with the female pup’s care.
