Jobs/Volunteers/Internships
Want more information about all available positions here at Shedd? You'll find out everything you need to know about careers, volunteering and internships.
Animal Trainer Information/Shadowing Requests/Aquatic Science Careers
Due to the overwhelming demand for job-shadowing opportunities each month, we no longer can accommodate these requests. We do offer a Trainer for a Day program for an additional fee. This program gives guests the opportunity to experience shadow a marine mammal trainer and see what goes into their day. Shedd offers other opportunities to meet the trainers and learn about training:
- After every marine mammal presentation, one of our trainers stays in the amphitheater to meet guests and answer questions.
- Our careers page includes information about becoming an animal trainer.
- Throughout the year the education department offers classes that introduce students to the aquarium's animals and to careers in animal training and the aquatic sciences.
- These are often taught by trainers and aquarists.
- We offer many volunteer opportunities to individuals 15 and older who can make a one-year commitment to the aquarium.
- Serious students interested in pursuing an aquatic sciences or animal-training career can check the intensive internship program.
