We’ve got programs and special events to make everybody in your family happy. The explorers will enjoy field adventures on the high seas. Difference makers create change while sleeping with the fishes. Your budding scientist can get face to face with some of the coolest creatures on the planet.

Spooky Seas Family Overnight
Get a unique glimpse of mysterious animals after dark during Spooky Seas, an annual family Halloween celebration. Enjoy themed presentations, animal encounters, dinner and breakfast, gallery activities, and a live DJ with dancing. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Children must be 5 years of age or older to spend the night.
Evening only: Friday, Oct. 30, 6-10 p.m.
Fee: $25 a person ($20 Shedd members)
Overnight: Friday, Oct. 30, 6 p.m.–Saturday, Oct. 31, 9 a.m.
Fee: $60 a person ($50 Shedd members)

Enjoy Shedd’s new Polar Play Zone exhibit before the aquarium opens to the public! Kids and their families build meaningful connections with their favorite Oceanarium animals when Shedd's experts share stories and cool information. Families transform their experiences into usable crafts to take home. Continue your polar journey with an included special viewing of the Pole to Pole 4-D experience. Light snacks will be provided.

Family Learning Adventures
Extend your aquarium visit with an adventure in the immersive environment of Shedd’s Aquatic Education Center. During the holiday season you are invited to drop in and join us for themed activities, memorable moments and family fun. This program is free with aquarium admission and registration is not required.

Family Fishing Outing
Cast a line with Shedd at a local fishing hole! Create your own family “fish stories” as you join us for a relaxing day of fun in the sun at Northerly Island located on the Museum Campus. After enjoying the natural world outdoors, continue your journey in the Waters of the World exhibit at Shedd.

Windy Sails
Ahoy, matey! Join Shedd staffers for a morning sail aboard the tall ship Windy, a 148-foot four-masted schooner. Take in the sights of Chicago’s magnificent skyline, raise the sails with the Windy’s crew and take part in family activities to protect the Great Lakes. Boat sails from Navy Pier.
