of the Shedd Aquarium Kovler Family Hall. Mix and mingle with your guests, journey through the aquatic-themed columns and encounter unique animals. Hear the stories of Shedd’s global and local conservation efforts come to life throughout the Wild Reef, Abbott Oceanarium and Amphibians exhibits, cocktail in-hand.

    A Penguin-Focused Eco-Adventure

    • Three adventures available for two travelers each

    Each year, hundreds of endangered African penguin chicks are abandoned by their parents. Shedd Aquarium has teamed with the South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB), to reverse the decline of penguin and seabird populations through the rescue, rehabilitation and release of ill, injured, abandoned and oiled birds.

    Accompanied by a member of Shedd’s leadership team, you anda guest will travel to Cape Town, South Africa, to witness Shedd’s Animal Response Team in action. The seven-night, eight-day eco-adventure highlights the challenges these penguins face and shows you firsthand the rehabilitation process. Hosted by luxury travel purveyors Abercrombie & Kent, you will experience South Africa’s natural beauty and sophisticated cultural scene with exclusive experiences including a private tour of Two Oceans Aquarium.

    An Eco-Adventure with Shedd's Conservation Research Team

    • One adventure available for four travelers (ages 12+)

    On this six-night, seven-day voyage, you and three guests will see the Bahamas from a unique perspective: that of Shedd’s conservation biologists. In this never-before-offered opportunity, as newly minted citizen scientists, you will travel with Dr. Chuck Knapp and Dr. Andy Kough aboard the aquarium’s 80-foot research vessel, the R/V Coral Reef II, to help collect data for two ongoing research projects while immersing yourselves in the pristine beauty of remote islands and waters in the Exumas chain.

    After three days of discovery and camaraderie aboard the R/V Coral Reef II, you’ll conclude in George Town, on Great Exuma, at a luxury hotel. This voyage will appeal to your inner marine biologist and insatiable curiosity about the natural aquatic world.

    Whales of the St. Lawrence

    In the beginning of August, Saguenay Marine Park, where the St. Lawrence River begins to widen and grow wild, teems with great whales — blue, humpback, finback and minke — joining the resident belugas to feast in the rich waters. In fact, the St. Lawrence boasts the largest number of great whale species on Earth. You and a guest can experience this rugged, verdant region of Quebec in the company of a Shedd marine mammal expert on this exceptional voyage.

    At the same time, you’ll learn about Shedd’s contribution to the conservation of the St. Lawrence belugas, an endangered population of the charismatic white whales. This trip is custom-designed for the dedicated conservationist and adventurer who wants to connect as closely as possible with these amazing animals.

As you go through this extraordinary day, you’ll ask yourself, “what would Dr. Bridget Coughlin do?” You’ll find out as you shadow the CEO herself for part of the day, then compare notes!

    • Five volunteer days available for 30 – 100 participants (depending on location)

    Guided by a member of Shedd’s conservation team, your employees, your family, or your child’s classroom can volunteer with Shedd to get their hands dirty cleaning beaches, removing invasive plants to restore habitats and collecting important data on native amphibians through citizen science projects. Events are held year-round at natural areas along the local Lake Michigan shore and at forest preserves throughout the Chicago metro area. This voyage on behalf of our local wildlife will help you share your passion for conservation and inspire the people around you to make a difference, all while having an incredibly fun day outdoors.
