Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum

Discover why “Space is Freaking Awesome” this spring at the Adler Planetarium! Visit the new temporary exhibition, Chasing Eclipses, to find inspiration in eclipse chasers from history, discover the cosmic scale of being in the shadow of the moon, and prepare to chase down the great solar eclipse on Aug. 21. Attend “Earthfest” on April 22 as Adler celebrates the planet we all call home and facilitates conversations about protecting it for future generations. Dust off your dancing shoes for the return of “Adler After Dark: Planetary Prom” on May 28.

The Field Museum

Stand among larger-than-life warriors in the Field Museum's newest exhibition, China's First Emperor and His Terracotta Warriors. Tasked to guard Qin Shihuangdi's tomb for eternity, archers, infantrymen and armored officers hold watch over a striking underground model of China's first empire. Explore the life of the ruler who vanquished his rivals, unified China's many warring states, constructed the first Great Wall, built roads throughout his vast territory and standardized China's script, currency, weights and measures. Learn about his desire to reign over the universe and his obsession with immortality. His fierce warriors are so revered that the Field Museum is the only place in North America that they can be seen this year. Get the details at

Soldier Field

Experience more than the parking garage — take a short walk west on McFetridge Drive to check out the Doughboy Statue and Veteran’s Memorial water wall.

FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island

Formerly known as “Charter One Pavilion”, this seasonal concert hall is one of the city’s newest spots to catch an outdoor concert. Though it may be intimate in size (it seats only 8,000), the atmosphere and skyline views are anything but small.

Grant Park

Stroll under Lake Shore Drive and into Grant Park, with spectacular gardens and the world-famous Buckingham Fountain.

Water Taxis and Sightseeing Boats

Take a different approach to Shedd — take a water taxi! Shoreline Sightseeing water taxis run between Navy Pier and the Museum Campus dock, at lake level on the north side of Shedd.
