Teeming with life. And we’re talking about our volunteers!
Want to join our volunteer family? You don’t have to be a marine biologist or a fish expert. Everyone is welcome! If you love to learn and to teach, and you care about protecting the Earth’s resources, you will be a great volunteer.
As a not-for-profit organization, Shedd relies heavily on its volunteer staff. In return for your dedication and hard work, the aquarium provides many benefits and opportunities.

Due to the overwhelming demand for job-shadowing opportunities each month, we can no longer accommodate these requests.
Please note: We do not offer one-time, court-appointed community, or school service opportunities.
Volunteer honor roll
We're proud of our volunteers—all 800+ of them! During National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 15 through 21, we're celebrating those who achieved significant milestones last year, either achieving a new level of hours of service or marking a major anniversary with Shedd. Check out the honor roll—maybe you know one of these great people.
