General Visit Questions

Is parking paid for?

We are unable to provide complimentary parking, but there is parking available on Museum Campus. You can find out more about parking here.

Can I take public transit?

The aquarium is easily accessible through Chicago’s public transit system. Find out more about getting to Shedd here.

Where do we enter?

We’ll have signs and staff members in front of the aquarium to direct you to the proper entrance.

Family Celebration Event Questions

Guest Policy

How many guests can I/my student bring?

Each participant/teacher can bring up to 3 guests to this event.

What if I/my students want to bring more than three guests?

Participants are welcome to bring more than three guests. They will be able to purchase their ticket upon arrival for the aquarium.

Is there a discount for additional tickets?

Additional tickets will not be discounted. You can find out more about our available ticket packages here. You can view more information about our special offers here.

Do I/my guests really have to bring photo ID?

Adults will be asked to provide a photo ID at check-in, and students will be asked to provide their teacher’s name.

General Event Information

How do I know if I’m attending the aquatic presentation?

Because we have a limited quantity of aquatic presentation tickets available, they will be distributed at check-in on a first-come, first-served basis.

Do I get to choose an aquatic presentation to attend?

Tickets to the aquatic presentation will be distributed at the time of arrival by event staff, based on availability. We will be unable to take requests as to which presentation you will see, but we will try to make sure you and your guests can attend the same presentation.

Will my classroom be able to attend the aquatic presentation together?

Because the tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, we cannot guarantee that every student in your classroom will receive tickets to the same aquatic presentation. We recommend arriving as close to 9 a.m. as possible.

Can I save/reserve aquatic presentation tickets?

Because we have a limited quantity of aquatic presentation tickets available, they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. All members of your party must be present to receive their aquatic presentation ticket.

Wreath Specific Information

Where are the wreaths displayed?

The wreaths are on display in the area surrounding the Caribbean Reef, as well as by the membership desk.

How did you decide how to hang the wreaths?

The wreaths are displayed based on grade level.

How will we know who won?

Contest winners will be announced the week of December 17 at the winning schools and on Shedd Aquarium’s website. Winning wreaths will also be decorated at the aquarium with a ribbon.

If I win, what do I do next?

If your classroom wreath wins in any category, we’ll contact you directly to discuss prize distribution.

How long should my classroom essay be?

Essays should be limited to 200 words.
