Andrea Rodgers drives external affairs, strategic communications and marketing strategies that advance Shedd’s mission of sparking compassion, curiosity and conservation for the aquatic animal world.
Andrea Rodgers provides strategic direction and leadership of Shedd Aquarium’s External Affairs and Marketing division, driving long-range planning, impact strategies and meaningful partnerships to bring people’s heads, hearts and hands closer to the organization’s living mission to spark compassion, curiosity and conservation for the aquatic animal world. A member of senior leadership, she combines her deep experience in external engagement and communications, audience development and experiential content strategy with her passion for animals and nature to champion the work of the organization’s marketing, digital and social media, public relations and communications, government affairs, and policy and advocacy teams.
Over the last decade, Rodgers has worked to advance and amplify the work and collective impact of cultural organizations, aquariums, and zoos through numerous leadership roles both within Shedd Aquarium and externally through local and national professional organizations. In 2019, she served a dual role as interim vice president for the aquarium’s learning and community division aimed at advancing mission-based informal education, experiential and community engagement outcomes, and in the same year was also selected as one of 10 professionals in North America to participate in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Executive Leadership Development Program – a 13-month intensive executive training, coaching, and mentoring program designed to develop the next generation of zoo and aquarium leadership.
Before joining Shedd in 2011, Rodgers served as director of marketing and public relations for the law firm of Mitchell Williams Selig Gates & Woodyard, PLLC where she designed and executed all strategic marketing, public relations, business development, community relations and client service initiatives. Previously, she was the associate director of public relations for full-service marketing and communications agency Stone Ward where she specialized in media relations campaigns, employee engagement, public communications, and strategic planning.
Over the last decade, Rodgers has earned best-in-practice honors as the recipient of numerous industry awards from AZA, the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Publicity Club of Chicago (PCC), Legal Marketing Association (LMA) and more in addition to serving as a conference presenter and speaker for various organizations. She has also served as a volunteer and fundraiser for a variety of charitable causes ranging from homelessness and youth developmental disabilities to breast cancer awareness.
Rodgers holds the Accredited in Public Relations (APR) designation for excellence in the principles and strategies of public relations.
