Nancy Anschel leads all HR efforts including staff training and development. In addition, Anschel oversees the Volunteer Services department with its active group of 800 volunteers. In her 20 years at Shedd, Anschel has played an important role in launching many of the aquarium’s successful employee programs, including its diversity initiative, a multi-tiered professional development program, and employee satisfaction surveys and response efforts.
Anschel is a senior HR professional with experience and strengths in all traditional human resources disciplines, including talent acquisition, training and development, onboarding and orientation, employee and labor relations, compensation, benefits and rewards, employment law, legal compliance and risk mitigation, diversity and inclusion, HR technology, organizational change and culture building and strategic HR planning. Her strengths include promoting and reinforcing a high-performance culture of employee engagement and results.
For more than 15 years, Anschel taught a series of employee relations classes for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ professional development program, part of an accredited master’s degree program offered through George Mason University. She is a founding member of the Chicago Metropolitan HR cultural group and a member of the Society for Human Resources Management.
Anschel holds a bachelor’s degree of business in marketing and management from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
