  • A Busy Month for Katrl’s Calf

    While we can’t say that Katrl’s calf wasn’t busy during his 12 or so months developing in utero, his first month out and about in Secluded Bay has been filled with marking critical milestones, accomplishments that have the marine mammals staff members cautiously beaming like proud parents.

  • Many Species, Many Techniques, All Great Moms

    Pacific white-sided dolphin Piquet is a two-time mom: Sagu (shown here) was born in 2012, and Makoa arrived not quite a year ago. Both calves are males. In addition to the joy they have brought Shedd guests and staff members, they are precious additions to the North American zoological population of this species, which numbers 17.
