Catherine Casey oversees Shedd’s legal services, providing counsel on a variety of legal matters involving Shedd’s operations, non-profit status, partnerships, sponsorships, charitable giving and more.

Catherine Casey serves as General Counsel to Shedd Aquarium, overseeing legal, compliance, and risk management at the Aquarium. Casey renders legal advice and counsel on a variety of matters across all aspects of Shedd’s operations, including its business affairs, board and corporate governance, the aquarium’s animal collection, construction projects, educational initiatives, conservation and research endeavors, employment matters, marketing, technology, contracts, insurance, intellectual property and licensing, Shedd’s non-profit and tax-exempt status, corporate sponsorships, special events and charitable giving.
Over the last 30 years, Casey’s practice has concentrated in the corporate, litigation and transactional areas. Casey has served as General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel for two major U.S. accounting firms. Prior to that, Casey was a litigation Partner at a top-tier international law firm. Outside of her legal career, Casey has been involved with a litany of non-profit organizations that serve Illinois youth, women and people experiencing hardship.
Casey earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Princeton University and holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
