Educator Expedition: Flora and Fauna on the Chicago River
Kayak with Shedd Aquarium educators and learn about the conservation and restoration history of the Chicago River!
Enjoy a guided paddle along the Wild Mile to see Chicago from a new perspective. Learn about the river’s polluted past and exciting progress to-date to “re-wild” the river and increase biodiversity above and below the surface. Practice water quality testing techniques and animal and plant ID and learn ways to bring those practices back to your classroom! We’ll kayak in the morning and spend the afternoon on the Wild Mile’s scenic boardwalk.
Participants will meet at Shedd and travel together to the natural area. Lunch is not provided and there will be limited food options at the site, so please bring a bagged lunch and a reusable water bottle.
Illinois teachers who participate in this program will be able to earn 4.5 ISBE approved clock hours in this session.
Registration closes on July 16, 2025.
