Open 9 am - 5 pm
Young students observe a "sea monkey" living in a small glass habitat in Shedd's learning labs.
A red-footed tortoise opens its mouth wide to chow down on a mulberry.

Learning Labs are inquiry-based lab programs in which students gain skills in scientific methods, collaboration, communication, teamwork and more. Learning Labs can take place at your school or at Shedd Aquarium.

Timing Policy

  • All reservation requests must be submitted at least 14 days before your scheduled program.
  • Programs are offered most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
  • Labs run between 50 and 60 minutes.
  • Programs must be consecutive (no more than 30 minutes between programs and at least 15 minutes between programs to allow for clean-up and set-up).
  • Up to 4 programs can be scheduled in one day. If more programs are requested, please contact [email protected] to discuss options.
  • Start time and end time are flexible for all Learning Labs.\

Teacher and Room Policy

  • Our programs involve the transportation of many materials and sometimes perishable items. To reduce set up time, one consistent space/classroom is highly recommended for all sessions.
  • At least one supervisory teacher must be present during the entire outreach program.
  • Easy access to a sink is preferred, however not necessary for successful facilitation of these programs.
