Proposals at Shedd

Let some of Shedd’s best-loved animals help you pop the question! Arrange your proposal around a specially designed Beluga Encounter or Penguin Encounter. Both are available during regularly scheduled encounter times, or the experience can be upgraded for a private proposal.

Beluga Encounter Proposals

Guided by a Shedd trainer, you’ll learn all about the beluga whales as you wade into the waters of the Grainger Beluga Encounter Habitat. After some up-close and personal time with the whale, there will be an opportunity for a proposal that can only happen at Shedd! Call 312-692-3355 to schedule your proposal today.

Penguin Encounter Proposals

During this 60-minute encounter, you’ll be introduced to one of our Magellanic penguins and its trainer, behind the scenes. You’ll learn how Shedd cares for and trains our penguins and the importance of how Magellanic penguins mate for life. This will be your cue to pop the question! Call 312-692-3355 to schedule your proposal today.

Price: $50 (does not include admission to the Penguin Encounter)

Celebrate!

Enjoy a private spot overlooking the Abbott Oceanarium with champagne and strawberries for an additional $150. (Available only for the two participating guests)

Requirements

Make it private

You can reserve the entire encounter to have a more intimate experience! With this option, you can bring additional guests or make it a private experience for you and your significant other. This encounter also includes champagne and strawberries (for two people) on a private balcony overlooking the Abbott Oceanarium.

Private Beluga Encounter: $1250 or $1000 for members
Private Penguin Encounter: $850 or $650 for members

Participating guests should meet at the Northern Trust Suite on the day of their visit.

Photography

Photography and video recording are not allowed during this experience. Shedd will provide a professional photography to commemorate your encounter.

Refund Policy
