Shedd Boat Excursion: Lake Michigan

This summer, Chicagoans can connect with the aquatic life in their own backyard on our Shedd Boat Excursion: Lake Michigan. Spark your curiosity alongside Shedd experts by discovering what lives in our great lake on a 1½-hour boat excursion. Take part in hands-on activities exploring local waters and the animals that call them home—then learn how you can help protect both!

What's included

1½-hour boat tour on Lake Michigan with learning specialists from Shedd Aquarium.


$25 for guests 9 and up, $20 for Shedd Aquarium members.


Board the boat at 31st Street Harbor, 3155 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60616.

Parking ranges from $8-$25. Metered parking is available in nearby lots. Get rates and additional information.

Meet at the harbor 15 minutes before your departure time. You’ll receive information about the specific location in your confirmation email.

Group size

Maximum group size is 28. One adult is required for every five children.


Participants must be at least 9 years old.

Seating is not available aboard the W.G. Jackson; participants should expect to stand for about 1½ hours.

No weapons or backpacks are allowed on board. All persons/baggage/objects are subject to security inspection. Failure or refusal to consent to screening or inspection will result in denied access to the vessel.

All participants must sign a release waiver before boarding the vessel, and anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a release waiver.

Please, no backpacks and other unnecessary items. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather. Shoes should have nonskid soles and closed toes (no flip-flops or sandals).
