Danny Muñoz

Director of Animal Care and Sustainability

Danny Muñoz assists with managing the fishes department, which includes about 40 aquarists, as well as supporting the care and welfare of marine, freshwater and terrestrial animals.

Danny Muñoz oversees aquarist teams responsible for diverse group of exhibits from Wild Reef to the historic galleries that range from Oceans to Lakes and more. He ensures the highest exhibit and animal care standards are met at the aquarium. This oversight includes everything from food and diets to providing mental and physical activity through enrichment and more. Previously, Muñoz oversaw shark exhibits with multiple species, led the white abalone recovery program in coordination with NOAA and more at Aquarium of the Pacific. He also had experience with rescue and rehabilitation work for manatees and sea turtles, and conservation efforts like SECORE for coral reef restoration through his work with Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited organizations. Further, his passion for animals and their care led Muñoz to develop animal welfare assessments and protocols to advance training and enrichment efforts. He also participated in multiple AZA inspections for those seeking the accreditation that ensures the highest standards and best practices of the profession are upheld.
