Danny Muñoz brings decades of experience and deep passion to his role as director, Center for Animal Care and Sustainability at Shedd Aquarium. He oversees aquarist teams responsible for a diverse range of marine and freshwater habitats at the center. Through thoughtful leadership and diligent oversight, Muñoz ensures the highest standards of animal care are met, from providing nutritionally balanced diets to supporting animals’ physical and mental well-being through enrichment and training.

Before joining Shedd, Muñoz lent his expertise to Aquarium of the Pacific, where he managed multi-species shark exhibits and led a white abalone recovery program in coordination with NOAA. His background also includes rescue and rehabilitation work with manatees and sea turtles, as well as conservation efforts such as coral reef restoration with SECORE International.

Committed to advancing animal welfare, Muñoz has helped develop welfare assessments and care protocols and has participated in multiple Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accreditation inspections, helping uphold best practices across the field.
