Emmeline Bowers has spent more than 15 years learning what helps aquatic animals thrive. At Shedd Aquarium, she puts that knowledge and passion to work as Manager of Sea Lions and Sea Otters. Overseeing the care and advancement of some of the aquarium's most beloved animal species, Bowers’ animal care philosophy focuses on husbandry advancement, social progression and robust enrichment programming.

Beyond the walls of Shedd, Bowers has lent her expertise to advance sea otter care nationally, attending a sea otter conference in Seattle and lending hands-on support during the 24-hour care of a sea otter pup in Alaska — experiences that reflect her dedication to the field well beyond the walls of the aquarium.

In addition to her certifications from Michigan State University, Bowers has demonstrated commitment to the zoo and aquarium world through obtaining a AALSO Water Quality Level I Technician certification, and earned recognition as a Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association for Interpretation.
