Erica Hornbrook directs Shedd’s Animal Records and Analytics Department, advancing initiatives that support the care and management of Shedd’s diverse population of more than 32,000 animals. Under her leadership, the registrar office strengthens systems for daily data collection that inform thoughtful decisions around animal care, science and conservation—ranging from ethical acquisitions and sustainable diet planning to overall animal well-being, both at the aquarium and for wild counterparts.

Previously, Hornbrook led Shedd’s marine mammal teams, overseeing caretakers and supporting the care and welfare of cetaceans, sea lions and sea otters. She also oversaw the aquarium’s engagement animals, helping create meaningful educational connections between guests and wildlife. Earlier in her career, she managed operations for several major exhibits at Shedd, including Amazon Rising, the historic Galleries and Wild Reef.

Beyond Shedd, Hornbrook serves as an inspector for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), contributing to the accreditation process of member institutions. She has also played a key role in AZA Species Survival Plan programs, leading conservation initiatives for caiman lizards and freshwater stingrays.
