With a focus on innovation, collaboration and animal well-being, Keoki Burton leads the care and evolution of Shedd’s aquatic exhibits. As director, animal care and sustainability, his leadership ensures the highest standards of animal health and wellness while partnering with a robust scientific community to advance conservation, sustainability and modern animal care practices.

In addition to overseeing animal care and welfare for marine and freshwater fishes, Burton also is dedicated to sustainability and conservation efforts. He is involved with several conservation projects, including the Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s SAFE corals program.

Burton began his career as a Shedd volunteer working with river exhibits before joining the team full-time in 2013. During his undergraduate studies, he focused on organismal biology and ecology.
