Keoki Burton

Director of Animal Care and Sustainability

In addition to overseeing animal care and welfare for marine and freshwater fishes, Keoki Burton is dedicated to sustainability and conservation efforts.

Education

B.S., biology, Benedictine University

Keoki Burton is responsible for maintaining and advancing aquatic exhibits, ensuring the highest standards of animal health and wellness and working with a robust scientific community to establish innovative approaches to conservation, sustainability and animal care. He is also involved in several conservation projects, including Shedd’s partnership with the SECORE International Foundation for the restoration of coral reefs. Similar to various experts on Shedd’s animal care team, Burton began as a volunteer in the Rivers exhibit before rising through the ranks. Burton received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a focus on organismal biology and ecology at Benedictine University.
