Association of Zoos and Aquariums
Representing more than 230 institutions, this non-profit organization is dedicated to the advancement of zoos and aquariums in the areas of conservation, education, science and recreation. The AZA oversees a rigorous accreditation process that ensures that Shedd Aquarium and its peers meet the highest standards for these areas.
Shedd is the first U.S. aquarium to be Humane Conservation Certified by American Humane. This independent, third-party certification program focuses solely on the well-being of animals living at Shedd, evaluating their care through independent, scientific and evidence-based methods.
Shedd Aquarium is formally affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. The affiliate network encompasses more than 200 organizations in 46 states, Puerto Rico and Panama, working together to preserve the nation’s heritage, share resources and inspire learning.
Chicago Park District
A sustaining contributor and the largest municipal park manager in the nation, the Chicago Park District owns more than 8,800 acres of green space, including the lands surrounding the aquarium and our shared museum campus.
Museums in the Park
Museums In the Park is a coalition of Chicago museums located on Chicago Park District property. They work with the Chicago Park District, Chicago Public Schools, the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois and other entities to build greater awareness of the intrinsic value of museums.
World Association of Zoos and Aquariums
The unifying organisation for the world zoo and aquarium community. World Association of Zoos and Aquariums members include leading zoos, aquariums,associations, affiliate organisations and corporate partners from around the world. Together, our institutions welcome more than 700 million visitors annually.
