Several Chicago area celebrities make guest appearances in “Sea Curious,” the brand new video series from Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium—out now! Designed by kids for kids, each episode of “Sea Curious” answers a question about animals by exploring and having adventures at the aquarium and hope to spark curiosity for the aquatic world. New episodes launch every Monday – and today’s episode features something for the parents as well – Nickelodeon superstar, Kel Mitchell.
“I had a blast coming back to my hometown of Chicago to make some slime with the Sea Curious crew!” said Kel Mitchell, actor, writer, director and comedian, best known for roles on Kenan & Kel, Goodburger and Game Shakers. “I have fond memories visiting the Shedd growing up. From my own experience, I know how important it is to excite kids to wonder and ask questions about our aquatic world, and the Sea Curious series is doing just that.”
Each episode of Sea Curious pairs curious kids from the Shedd Aquarium Adventure Club—a diverse group of Chicago area students ages seven to 10 —with one of Shedd’s Animal Care experts to answer a different question about sea life. The club brainstormed the topics for each video themselves—ranging from animal superpowers and slime, to animal care and even poop. Sea Curious includes multilingual elements, with Spanish translations for all episodes and learning materials, and Shedd teamed up with local community partners and schools to offer the series as a fun tool to inspire new learning experiences for elementary-age kids.
"At Shedd, we believe encouraging curiosity and wonder in young kids is the first step to creating lifelong advocates for the underwater aquatic world," says Jo-Elle Mogerman, vice president of learning and community at Shedd Aquarium. "This series brings the animals, experiences and stories at Shedd Aquarium to virtual visitors by leveraging immersive and innovative technologies. We’re looking forward to hearing how kids and parents like the series and if they have questions of their own about the aquatic world that we can answer.
