In the latest high-profile field trip, four penguins from Shedd Aquarium visited The FRIENDS Experience on Michigan Avenue – a nostalgia-packed space dedicated to the popular TV show, “FRIENDS.” The birds walked through exact replicas from the recognizable set, experiencing new sensations and sights, like Joey’s penguin pal Hugsy, adding variety to their day as part of the aquarium’s welfare plan for the penguins. The resulting video encourages the public to get out and safely explore places like the aquarium and The FRIENDS Experience as the city of Chicago begins to reopen and recover.
The FRIENDS Experience will reopen to the public on Wednesday, March 17. The experience focuses on providing a safe environment through the use of timed ticketing, regular cleaning and sanitization, temperature checks and the requirement of masks and social distancing. The public can purchase their tickets online now. A portion of each ticket purchase will be donated to My Block, My Hood, My City to support their efforts to support youth education and arts in underserved communities.
The public can also purchase timed tickets to visit the famous penguins and several other species of incredible aquatic life at Shedd Aquarium. By purchasing a ticket to visit, guests are directly contributing to Shedd’s mission and helping to offset the financial impacts of COVID-19. For those not ready to make a visit in person, there are several ways that guests can connect with the aquatic world virtually through Shedd’s digital programs.
