Shedd Aquarium Extends Hours for Weekend Visits

August 14, 2020

A flowering tree accentuates the bold columns and stonework of the facade of the Shedd Aquarium.

Shedd Aquarium will begin offering extended hours on Saturdays and Sundays starting Saturday, August 15. The aquarium will be open until 6 p.m. on weekends, providing guests more opportunities to schedule a visit to come eye-to-eye with the aquatic world. The aquarium will also be open until 6 p.m. on Labor Day (Sept. 7).

The new operating hours mean more flexibility for guests to choose timed tickets to visit. This timed entry, paired with a limited building capacity, allow guests to safely space out and explore the 276,000 square feet of public space with family and close friends. Tickets to visit the aquarium must still be purchased online or via phone in advance of a visit.

As part of Shedd’s phased reopening, the aquarium is also welcoming back 4-D film experiences. This offering has been updated to be in accordance with the latest city and state health and safety guidelines. Additional information can be found on www.sheddaquarium.org/plan-a-visit.

One additional onsite update – the aquarium recently installed a new hearing loop at the membership desk. The accessibility tool allows for a more seamless interaction between Shedd staff and guests with hearing aids or cochlear implants.
