About the Linne's two-toed sloth

Alface is an ambassador for her species who lives at Shedd. Her name means "lettuce" in Portuguese, which was the first solid food she ate as a baby and the language primarily spoken in her native range.

Did you know?

  1. Sloths spend most of their lives in the tree canopy, sleeping up to 15 hours per day and digesting food slowly.

  2. Sloths' coarse fur keeps them warm and dry in rainy weather, but is also home to algae and insects that give their fur a green tint.
