Alicia LaVire champions Shedd Aquarium's philanthropic vision as Chief Development Officer, overseeing a comprehensive development program designed to bolster community connection and drive meaningful, lasting support for Shedd’s mission. An executive leader with nearly 20 years of experience championing multifaceted strategies to deepen the impact of mission-driven organizations, LaVire directs the aquarium’s fundraising efforts, spanning membership, individual giving and institutional giving, events and engagement, and donor relations — all with a focus on cultivating an inspired community of supporters aligned around nature, science, education and community.

Prior to joining Shedd, LaVire served in progressive leadership roles with The Morton Arboretum, including as vice president of marketing and guest experience. During her tenure, she successfully led organization-wide planning for Morton’s centennial celebration, ultimately strengthening engagement with a range of supporters, members, community partners, elected officials and volunteers.

LaVire also previously led brand marketing strategies at Shedd to advance the aquarium’s vision and mission. She contributed to the development of the aquarium’s strategic plan, played a lead role in establishing an in-house advertising agency, cultivated numerous external partnerships and led initiatives supporting both philanthropic and earned revenue goals.

LaVire is deeply invested in the vibrant cultural and tourism landscape of Chicagoland and an active, long-time member of the American Alliance of Museums and American Public Gardens Association. She also served as a board member of DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau and Choose DuPage.
