Museum Campus Cultural Organizations Will Close on Friday Due to Cold Weather Conditions
January 22, 2026
CHICAGO – Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum and Adler Planetarium have all decided to close to the public on Friday, Jan. 23 in anticipation of dangerously cold weather conditions. The neighboring Museum Campus facilities hope the decision will encourage guests and staff to stay home and stay safe as temperatures are expected to be below zero for much of the day.
All three organizations plan to reopen to the public on Saturday, Jan. 24, though the public is encouraged to visit their respective websites for the latest updates on hours and schedules.
Any guests impacted by these closures will be contacted with options to rebook their visit for another day.
As always, all three organizations will maintain a small group of essential staff onsite to look after their buildings and collections. For Shedd, this includes the animal care team, who will ensure the animals at the aquarium remain comfortable and well cared for, regardless of the weather.
