Daily Itinerary

Monday, March 8, 2027

Depart U.S

Tuesday, March 9

Arrive | Buenos Aires, Argentina (R,D)

Welcome to Buenos Aires! On Tuesday, March 9, upon arrival at Ezeiza Airport (EZE), you will be met and transferred to the Alvear Art Hotel for one night. For those arriving in the morning, an early check-in will be available. A local representative will be available at the hospitality desk to assist with recommendations for dining and independent exploration. Gather this evening with your fellow Shedd Aquarium travelers for a welcome cocktail reception followed by dinner at the hotel.

Wednesday, March 10

Buenos Aires | Ushuaia | Embark (B,L,D)

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to your group charter flight to Ushuaia. Located at the southernmost tip of the continent and nicknamed “El fin del Mundo,” Ushuaia lies at the end of the Andes. This afternoon, embark Le Lyrial.

Thursday & Friday, March 11 & 12

At Sea | The Drake Passage (B,L,D)

Spend your days crossing the Drake Passage, a legendary stretch of water. Through onboard lectures and workshops, learn about the region’s geology, history, wildlife and ever-changing ice formations. On deck, our naturalists will guide you in spotting albatross, cape petrels and other seabirds as they glide over the passage’s waters.

Saturday, March 13

The Weddell Sea (B,L,D)

Extreme and captivating, the Weddell Sea is one of the most remote and awe-inspiring regions on Earth. Navigating its dense pack ice is both a challenge and a privilege, offering unforgettable encounters with emperor penguins nesting on ice floes, vast cerulean-hued tabular icebergs and shifting polar landscapes. In this frozen wilderness, spot Adelie penguins, Weddell seals, orcas, and snow petrels — and, with luck, the elusive silver-coated Ross seal. Each sighting reveals the raw, majestic beauty of Antarctica’s untamed heart.

Sunday, March 14

Antarctic Peninsula (B,L,D)

Explore the mystical Antarctic Peninsula, a geological wonder shaped by ice, volcanic activity and ancient rock formations. The jagged peaks, volcanic beaches and dramatic glaciers tell the story of this frozen land’s geological evolution. As you venture through the icy expanse, you’ll encounter massive glaciers that have sculpted the landscape, towering mountains formed by tectonic movements and vast ice floes drifting across the frigid waters. Depending on ice conditions, your captain and expedition leader will determine Zodiac outings or landings to explore volcanic beaches, research stations and historic whaling sites. This surreal, hushed environment is teeming with wildlife, including penguins, seals, whales and orcas, all of which have adapted to the extreme conditions of the continent. Sail in the wake of pioneering explorers like Jean-Baptiste Charcot, Adrien de Gerlache and Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose expeditions to this remote and wild region revealed the raw power of nature’s geology.

At Sea (B,L,D)

During your days at sea, take full advantage of the many services and activities available on board. Unwind with a rejuvenating spa treatment or keep up your routine in the fitness center. Enrichment awaits with lectures and performances, while the boutique invites leisurely browsing. Meet PONANT’s onboard photographers, or head to the upper deck to take in the open sea — and perhaps spot passing marine life. A perfect blend of comfort, relaxation and discovery.

Wednesday - Friday, March 17 - 19

South Georgia (B,L,D)

Aboard your ship, set course for South Georgia — a remote, mountainous island shaped by an underwater range stretching from the Andes to the Antarctic Peninsula. This extraordinary wilderness is home to the rich wildlife of the far south: king and gentoo penguins, elephant and fur seals all thrive along its shores. You may have the opportunity to witness the majestic glaciers of Gold Harbor or the sweeping plains of Fortuna Bay. With luck, a landing at Salisbury Plain offers an unforgettable sight — over 300,000 king penguins, easily recognized by the vivid orange markings on their head and neck, gathered in one of the largest colonies on Earth.

Saturday & Sunday, March 20 & 21

At Sea (B,L,D)

Enjoy your time at sea, crossing the South Atlantic Ocean, with all the amenities Le Lyrial has to offer.

Monday, March 22

Port Stanley, Falkland Islands (B,L,D)

At the eastern tip of the Falklands’ largest island lies Port Stanley, the charming capital of this remote South Atlantic archipelago of nearly 700 islands and islets. First settled in 1764 by French explorer Louis Antoine de Bougainville, the port soon came under Spanish rule and has been under British sovereignty since 1833. The town blends South American character with Victorian charm — colorful rooftops brighten the windswept moorlands, evoking the rugged beauty of Scotland’s Orkney and Shetland Islands. In front of the 1933-built cathedral stands a striking arch made of whale jawbones, a nod to Stanley’s whaling heritage.

Tuesday & Wednesday, March 23 & 24

Enjoy your time at sea, crossing the South Atlantic Ocean, with all the amenities Le Lyrial has to offer.

Thursday, March 25

Puerto Madryn, Argentina (B,L,D)

Nestled along the Atlantic coast in Argentina’s Chubut Province, Puerto Madryn sits on the shores of the Golfo Nuevo, surrounded by wild, abundant nature. From here, a narrow isthmus leads to the Valdes Peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and extraordinary wildlife sanctuary. Its sheltered microclimate creates ideal conditions for breeding southern right whales in winter, as well as elephant seals, sea lions and orcas. The surrounding desert steppe is also home to Magellanic penguins, guanacos, Patagonian maras and a rich variety of birdlife.
